Biostimulants and biocontrol agents are among the fastest-growing tools in sustainable crop protection, and this PMBWC 2027 session presents new research on their development and use. Biostimulants and biological control products offer ways to improve crop growth and manage pests and diseases while reducing the use of synthetic chemicals. Advances in chemistry, microbiology and formulation, such as encapsulation of microbes, are making these products more stable and effective. Biostimulants include a wide range of materials, such as plant extracts, seaweed products, beneficial microbes, humic substances and new synthetic molecules. Biocontrol agents include bacteria, fungi and natural compounds that suppress plant pathogens and pests. Demand for these products is growing quickly as farmers, food companies and regulators look for safer and more sustainable ways to protect crops.
This session covers the discovery and mode of action of biostimulants and resistance inducers, the development of biocontrol agents and formulations, and their performance in greenhouse and field conditions. Product registration and integration into crop management systems are also included.
