  • Title: Validation of the Method for the Analysis of Metals in Sludge

Abstract

Method validation encompasses all procedures used to demonstrate the reliability of analytical results and the suitability of a method for its intended purpose. It relies on various analytical parameters and statistical tools to evaluate method performance and ensure the quality of the results obtained in accordance with the requirements of NM 03.7.124.
As part of this internship carried out at the DCE laboratory of ONEE – Water Branch, the main objective was to validate the method for the analysis of metals in sludge using ICP-OES and ICP-MS techniques with the aid of a certified reference material. This study focused on the evaluation of several validation parameters, including linearity, precision, and the limit of quantification, in order to verify the compliance of the method's analytical performance.
The work involved the analysis of three metals: copper, manganese, and nickel. The results obtained for these elements showed good agreement with the certified values of the reference material and met the acceptance criteria established by NM 03.7.124. The observed performances therefore demonstrate the reliability, precision, and accuracy of the methods under study.
In conclusion, the ICP-OES and ICP-MS techniques proved to be suitable for the determination of copper, manganese, and nickel in sludge samples. The validated results, which comply with the applicable normative requirements, confirm that these methods can be confidently used for routine metal analysis within the laboratory.
